Follow these tips this spring and capture the memories
By Petography
GET OUTSIDE – Lighting is the single most important factor when trying to get a decent snap of your pet. If possible, pick a cloudy day so you have nice soft, even lighting to work with. If no clouds are in the sky then try photographing in the first or last few hours of sunlight. Ensure the subjects eyes have catch light in them so that they have that sparkle in their eyes – this can make or break your photo!
PROVIDE MOTIVATION – Every dog/cat/bird is motivated by something different, most will be a willing subject with persuasion in the form of food or their favourite toy. Keep them interested and if your dog is energetic then try taking them for a walk beforehand to tire them out a bit.
GET DIRTY – The chances are to get at eye level with your subject you’re going to have to lie or at least sit on the ground! If you own a Great Dane this tip may be ignored.
MAKE FUNNY NOISES – Squeak, blow raspberries, talk in your doggy voice, try EVERYTHING to get that cute “what on earth is that noise” face! The tilty head is always welcome in pet photos
Ignore the passers by who may stare at you whilst you do this.
BE PATIENT – Let your pet be themselves. The best shots i’ve captured are thanks to having that camera ready when the perfect shot appears & animals are amazing at creating these shots all by themselves.
