Well here it is, our first interview of the Pet’s behind the people. Today we meet my friend, and owner of Some Pretty Things. Shannon and her fur babies. Shannon also does a blog interview a blog called Friday Inspiriations that we featured on a little while ago :-)

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Shannon, I run my own photography business called Some Pretty Things Photography and I study anthropology at Curtin Uni.
I have two cats. The eldest is named Gemini, he is a 4 year old long haired moggie that i rescued from a rather unsavoury character who was letting his cats breed unregulated. Technically Gemini’s uncle is also his Dad, but I try not to hold is against him. He’s a very cuddly boy and is very good at not scratching the kids, even when they bug him. He is a bit of a pig though and is always overweight because Avalon likes to sneak him extra cups of cat food! BellaNinja is a 3 year old half siamese. She has the most beautiful blue eyes. She came to me at 6 months old after being tormented and dumped by her last owner and she is still very skittish. But at night she is very happy to cuddle up on me and purr. Unfortunately, she thinks any clothing left on the floor or in washing baskets is her own personal litter tray, so until she breaks that habit (and while spring hayfever season is here – she is not an allergy friendly cat!) she is an outside cat. We also have Ernie, a huge 1 year old rabbit who lives mostly at Avalon’s daycare. He is house trained and very friendly, he doesn’t have a cage but just hops around the house and the backyard nibbling on rabbit food and the trail of apple cores that the kids leave around the house.

Do your pets get involved in your Business?

Bella is VERY good at keeping my lap warm on late nights!

Bella

Do they inspire you?

I don’t think they inspire me as much as comfort me. Gemini is very used to me coming into my room, flopping on the bed with an exhausted sigh and kneading my stress out on his thick fur! And when I go crazy from being in front of a screen for too long, I get to say I’m talking to them, not to myself! It’s very relaxing having cats – they do the funniest things. It’s especially good if you catch them in an embarrassing moment – they will get offended and snob you off for the rest of the day. I love that even when I’m stressed and busy and rushed, I can just take a few minutes to stroke them and I feel very centered again.

What is your favourite thing about your pets?

Probably that they are furry. Bella and Ernie are shorthaired, but still so soft (I didn’t name him Ernie, by the way, one of the daycare kids did!) and Gemini has this long, super thick and warm fuzz that makes him look like a lion if you brush it all up. Which he tolerates. It’s so lovely to have something warm and soft and fuzzy to keep your feet warm, or to snuggle or even use as a pillow. AND cats feel so funny when they lick you. Every now and again, Gemini will just casually stroll past and lick my leg. It’s the weirdest sensation and very funny to watch. So probably my favourite things are their tactile-ness and the odd things they do that keep me constantly entertained.

If you could have any animal in the world as your pet, what would you have, and what would you name it?

I was thinking about saying a panther or a white tiger or something, but I really have to say, I want a horse. I’ve wanted one since I was tiny and Mum still buys me a My Little Pony every christmas and thinks that’s hilarious. One day I will have a whole stable of gorgeous Appaloosa x Arab crosses and Carmargue ponies for Avalon and Kaidin. And they’ll all have hideously long show names. And possibly a panther called Leven to keep them company :)

Thanks for introducing your fur babies Shannon. Incase anyone was wondering, Kaidin and Avalon are her human babies :-)
